Documents Required To Import a Motor Vehicle or Motor Cycle

The following steps and documentation are required to successfully import a motor vehicle/cycle into Jamaica:

  • You are required to apply to the Trade Board Ltd  for an Import License and obtain same prior to making shipping arrangements for the motor vehicle/cycle.
  • If you are importing a used vehicle it must be inspected and issued with a Pre-inspection Certificate from the country of export.  Inspections are done by Auto Terminal Japan for used vehicles coming from that country.  For used vehicles coming from USA, UK, Singapore, UAE and also Japan, please visit the link below: http://www.inspections.jp/contactus.html
Documents required:
Import licenceIssued by the Trade Board Limited authorizing the importation of the motor vehicle or motor cycle.
Title/Export CertificateIssued to the owner of the vehicle by the government of the country where the vehicle was purchased.
Bill of Lading/Order​​Obtained from the shipping agent
InvoiceAn invoice from the supplier is required for all vehicles
Tax Compliance (TCC)Obtained from the Tax Administration Jamaica.
Special DeclarationThe Special Declaration is prepared by a Licensed Customs Broker and must be signed by the importer.

N.B – Importation of Damaged Vehicles – The importation of motor vehicles that are considered to be in a damaged or salvaged state is PROHIBITED.
